Large Print Videos and DVDs Compact Discs Kits/Puzzles Cassettes and Talking Books UMW Reading Program The Jones Memorial Library houses over six thousand items in the following categories:
For obvious reasons, there's a strong emphasis on religious subject matter, but we also have books on a surprisingly broad range of non-fiction topics, including parenting, family issues, grief counseling, science and theology, politics, environmental issues, and many other areas.
All items circulate for four weeks.
We have a variety of other resources available in the library, including dictionaries and other reference books, a Braille copy of the United Methodist hymnal, reports from Holston annual conferences from 1980 to the present, an up-to-date church membership directory, and listings of local senior services.
If you're looking for something in particular, please ask the librarian or a member of the library's volunteer staff. If we don't have exactly what you're looking for, we will help you obtain it from another source. You can email the librarian from the main church page or leave a telephone message.
The following magazines are available in our library:
We keep the current year's issues for each magazine on our large magazine display rack, but we also keep an archive of the past year for each magazine elsewhere in the library. Ask a library staff member if you need assistance locating back issues of a particular magazine.
We have a growing collection of large print books in both fiction and nonfiction. They are located off the main aisle of the library. We also have an audio book rack for talking books. These books have the same circulation policies as the rest of the books in our collection.
We have hundreds of videotapes and DVDs that circulate the same way our book collection does. These are indicated in the card catalog by call numbers that begin with VC. Videos may be borrowed for four weeks, with renewals possible as long as no one else is waiting to borrow them. There's no charge for borrowing videos, but we do ask that you please rewind them before returning them. We have everything from classic movies (such as The Ten Commandments), to studies on specific books of the Bible, to collections of kids' silly songs. We also have a few videos specifically of local interest, such as a video on the history of FUMC Oak Ridge. We typically have multiple copies of the most popular videos for young children, including all the Veggie Tales videos.
CDs may be borrowed for four weeks, with renewals possible as long as no one else is waiting to borrow them. The library also houses audio cassettes of all sermons preached in the traditional Sunday morning worship service during the past year; these taped sermons are not included in the card catalog, but are simply organized by date in their own set of drawers. Church sermons are also available on your computer from the main FUMC page.
The United Methodist Women select a set of books annually to be used in their reading program, and these books are housed on a special shelf in the library labeled "UMW Books." These books may be borrowed for four weeks, just like the rest of our book collection. Immediately to the left of this year's books are the UMW book shelves containing all of the books that have been included in the UMW reading program for the previous six years. After this time, the UMW reading program books are integrated into the regular collection.
