Stephen Ministry"Love one another as I have loved you" John 15:12
The Stephen Ministry Program is based on the biblical premise that all Christians are called to be ministers.
We have many needs for care in our congregation and community: people who are experiencing divorce, grief, a terminal illness, loss of a job, relocation, an empty nest, retirement, hospitalization, and many other stresses and challenges. Often, people with needs suffer silently or do not request or receive the level of care they really need.
It is not possible for the clergy to provide all of the care to meet all of these needs. Lay persons who have answered the call to become Stephen Ministers participate in a fifty-hour training program that equips them for this ministry. The Stephen Ministers are then paired up one-on-one with those who have requested the support of a Stephen Minister.
If you are a person who could benefit from this ministry, or if you know of someone in our congregation or community who should be contacted with an offer of this ministry, contact Rev. Troy Forrester. Please note that, if you are recommending assistance for someone else, you will not receive any feedback regarding your referral, as all Stephen Ministry activities are confidential. Rest assured, though, that your request will be prayerfully considered and acted upon.
If you would like to learn more about this ministry and how it functions, click on FAQ's (frequently asked questions) at the top of this page. If you feel called to become a Stephen Minister, e-mail Rev. Troy Forrester, or contact him through the FUMC church office at 483-4357.
Stephen Ministry is a lay caring ministry that provides sustained and supportive confidential Christian care to people in crisis situations.
As a pervading spirituality in our Church, Stephen Ministry functions as an extension of, and in concert with, the pastoral care program.
