Centering Prayer meets weekly on Tuesdays 12:00-12:45 pm in the Chapel. Led by Jenny Caughman, the group is open to anyone interested in learning about or practicing this method of meditative prayer.
Centering Prayer is a form of contemplation in which we quiet our minds with the intention of opening ourselves up to God. For the first fifteen centuries of Christianity, contemplation and union with God was seen as the spiritual goal. This changed with the Reformation and the art of contemplative prayer was lost. Over the last 50 years, there has been a revival of, and renewed appreciation for, this deeply spiritual practice.
The first 15 minutes will focus on teaching and discussion of centering prayer. (Persons who just wish to pray may come at 12:15.) Then there will be 20 minutes of prayer, followed by a brief opportunity to share, if desired. Drop by and open yourself up to God!
