Aid to Distressed Families of Appalachian Counties (ADFAC)Aid to Distressed Families of Appalachian Counties (ADFAC) is an independent non-profit agency concerned with the social welfare, including educational, health, housing, and handicapped needs of residents of Anderson County. ADFAC has made a commitment to distribute limited emergency aid funds in the most responsible, effective, and caring way possible and to assist low, and very low, income homeowners in repairing their homes or building new houses. Support is provided through two major programs. The Social Services program aids families in urgent need with basic survival necessities, such as rent and utilities. The Helping Hands program works with owner-occupied, substandard housing to bring residences up to code and to build new homes. ADFAC is an outgrowth of work begun by Kathy Stimpson of FUMC. We have supported this important outreach for many years. ADFAC is seen by many in the community as a lasting recognition of Kathy Stimpson’s unselfish service to those in need.
