Therapeutic Activity Program

One of the most important components of the daily schedule is the activities program. The primary purpose of this activity program is the creation of opportunities and reasons for a person to exercise his abilities and to continue life tasks. A person who does not exercise his ability to do something may soon lose that ability, whether it is muscular, intellectual, social, or any other type. The Keystone activity program helps establish a general environment in which all participants are given equal opportunities to exercise as many abilities as possible, be it with others, in a group or alone.

All participants are given the opportunity to participate on their terms and encouraged to try new activities.  No matter how small it may appear to be, achievement generates its own dignity, self-respect, independence, and the desire to achieve more.

The activity program includes:
  • Music, both appreciation and interactive
  • Intergenerational activities with First Steps Child Development Program, located onsite
  • Pet therapy through HABIT of the University of Tennessee’s Veterinary School
  • Gardening
  • Outdoor activities
  • Low impact exercises
  • Fine and gross motor coordination
  • Cognition, socialization and communication skills.
The programs are designed to encourage maintenance of self-care and normal activity as long as possible.
