Support Groups

 
Caregiver Support Group: 2nd Thursday of each month, 12:30 - 2:30 p.m., Rm. 203, led by Jill Baker. Call 865-483-6631 for more information.
 
Grief Support Group: Schedule varies, offered through First United Methodist Church. Call 865-483-4357 for more information.
 

Why join a support group?

 
Because it can help you:
 
  • Realize you are not alone.
  • Prevent isolation.
  • Network …share ideas, learn news about the latest advances in treatment of the disease, find doctors who specialize in the field, etc.
  • Gain a better perspective and have realistic expectations.
  • Set goals.
  • Reinforce efforts for positive action.
  • Improve communication skills.
  • Cope with and grieve losses.
  • Counter depression.
  • Make new friends.
  • Accept the need for help and support, both physical or emotional.
  • LAUGH!!!
 

Additional Services

  • Keynotes is a monthly newsletter mailed to all caregivers and supporters of Keystone. 
  • Periodically Keystone offers educational classes to family caregivers as well as community members.
  •  An annual survey is conducted to evaluate the current services and to get ideas from families for services
  •  Keystone has a library of information on topics such as: tips for providing care, providing a safe environment, issues regarding dementia care, local companion services, assisted living facilities and nursing homes. 
 

Counseling

Brief counseling is available on a daily basis both in person and over the telephone.
 
Individual and family conferences can be scheduled.
Information is available about the following items:
  • "Safe Return" Program of the Alzheimer's Association
