February 25 - 2nd Annual Bird Hunt
|
|
We have set up the 2nd annual bird hunt for Saturday, February 25th. We could only get morning hunts, so we will be leaving from FUMC at 0600 and should be back around 5:00 PM. Cost is $120/person. This does not include cleaning and tip for the guide. Cleaning was around $3/bird, so budget around $175/person. We can take two groups out and the group size probably can’t exceed about 8, so we can take about 16 hunters. We have to have at least 10 to get the group rate. If you want to go, please contact either Dave (851-3542) or Steve (405-1300) and claim a spot. We need to have all responses by 2/17.
A few lessons learned from last year:
- Bring a cooler big enough for about a dozen birds. They clean all birds at once and divide the harvest equally among all hunters.
- Bring a blaze orange vest and cap and dress for cold weather. The farm is in Gallatin, north of Lebanon and near the KY border.
- 12 or 20 gauge shotguns work fine. Modified choke seemed to be the best choice.
- Please don’t use shot smaller than #6. Smaller shot is difficult to remove when cleaning and you’ll be biting down on it all throughout dinner.
