The Youth Choir of First United Methodist Church is comprised of students in grades 7-12 and serves as the primary worship choir for the 8:45 am service of worship. In addition to their worship responsibilities, the choir takes an extensive tour each summer as they share God’s love through music and fellowship with persons in hospitals, churches, nursing homes, children’s homes, and retirement centers throughout the world. The Youth Choir of FUMC strives for excellence in singing and has performed in some of the world’s most prestigious houses of worship.
The youth have sung in St. Patrick’s Cathedral and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in NYC, Duke University Chapel in Durham, NC, Bath Abby in Bath, England, and the National Cathedral in Washington, DC.
They have been featured before the Tennessee American Choral Director’s Association, the National YouthCUE Round Table for directors of youth choirs and the Holston Annual Conference. The choir has presented the US and Canadian national anthems in several major league baseball stadiums including Shea Stadium, Wrigley Field, the Sky Dome, Camden Yards and Turner Field.
However, what has been most meaningful to all the choir members who have participated in the annual choir tours over the past 30 years is the joy they receive in sharing their music with those persons who do not often have the opportunity to hear sacred choral music.
