A New Ministry for Homeless Children-Would You Like to Help?

Family Promise is a national organization that has an 80% success rate at transitioning families with children from homelessness to sustainable independence. Blount and Knox Counties have successfully developed these ministries, and now Roane County is developing one as well. Family Promise of Roane County (FPRC) is organizing churches who are willing to host up to four families with children (no more than 14 people total) four to six times a year, for one week at a time, providing overnight lodging (6 pm - 7 am), meals, and hospitality.

First Church has a unique opportunity. While congregations usually host these families in their own building, FPRC has been offered the use of the Michael Dunn Center (near the I-40 and Hwy 58 intersection) as an overnight location. So, they have a place but not a church willing to provide the volunteer side of the equation. Is this a ministry to which our congregation is willing to commit? Are you willing to be a part of this ministry?

You are invited to an informational gathering on May 5 at 12:30 pm in the Chapel. Mark Flynn will describe the ministry in more detail and answer initial questions about what participation would entail. If you are interested in receiving more information but cannot attend on May 5, please contact Mark to be included in further communication on this topic.
